Terms of service

These terms are an agreement between you and Titun LLC ("Titun", "we"), the maker of Key — the iOS app and the physical Keys that work with it. By using the app you accept them. If you don't agree, don't use Key.

What Key is

Key is a self-control tool. You choose the apps and websites it blocks; once locked, they stay blocked until you scan a physical Key or use one of the limited force unlocks. Key is designed for managing your own device. It is not a parental-control or device-management service, and it must not be used to control someone else's phone.

Eligibility

You must be old enough to enter into this agreement where you live. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must review and accept these terms for you.

Your license

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store terms. We keep all rights not expressly granted here.

Physical Keys

• The app works with provisioned Key tags. Keys are interchangeable — any genuine Key can lock or unlock your blocklist.
• Physical Keys are sold separately, and the seller may be a person or company other than Titun (for example, the store at trykey.co). Your purchase is a contract with that seller, under the sale terms shown at checkout; Titun is not a party to hardware sales it doesn't make.
• Keys contain no personal information and cannot track you.
• Keep your Key somewhere deliberate. If you can't reach it, the limited force unlocks are the way back in; they are scarce by design and we don't replenish them on request.

Blocking and its limits

• Blocking is built on Apple's Screen Time technology and requires the permission you grant during setup. If iOS interrupts or degrades that capability — a system update, a device restore, revoking the permission — blocking can pause or fail. We can't guarantee it is uninterruptible.
• Key is a commitment device, not a cage. A determined person can get around it. We don't promise any particular outcome, including less screen time or changed habits.
• Blocking can also keep working when you'd rather it didn't. Do not block anything you might need in an emergency, and don't rely on Key for any safety-critical restriction. Plan before you lock. Calls to emergency services always remain available — iOS does not let Key interfere with them.
• With Hard lock on, iOS prevents deleting apps on the whole device while a lock is active. You choose to turn that on, and you accept its scope when you do.

Purchases

Key has no in-app purchases and no subscriptions. The app is distributed through the App Store under Apple's terms. Physical Keys follow the sale terms of the seller you bought them from.

Acceptable use

Use Key only on devices you own or control, and only lawfully. Don't copy, modify, distribute, or resell the app; don't reverse engineer it except where the law expressly permits; don't attempt to forge, clone, or tamper with Key tags.

Intellectual property

The app, its design, and the Key name and marks belong to Titun. These terms give you no rights in them beyond the license above.

Disclaimer of warranties

KEY IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT BLOCKING WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE. SOME JURISDICTIONS DON'T ALLOW THESE EXCLUSIONS, SO PARTS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.

Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, TITUN IS NOT LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, OR FOR LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR OPPORTUNITY, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) KEY. IN PARTICULAR, TO THAT SAME EXTENT, TITUN IS NOT LIABLE FOR:

• Blocking that fails, pauses, or is bypassed — including because of an iOS update, a device restore, a revoked permission, or other platform changes beyond our control.
• Situations where blocking prevented access to an app or website when you wanted or needed it, except as addressed through the force unlocks built into the app.
• Your inability to reach a physical Key.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS IS CAPPED AT THE GREATER OF WHAT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR FIFTY US DOLLARS (US$50). SOME JURISDICTIONS DON'T ALLOW THESE LIMITS, SO PARTS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.

Termination

You can stop using Key at any time; deleting the app ends the license. We may suspend or end the license if you break these terms. Sections that by their nature should survive — including intellectual property, disclaimers, and liability limits — survive.

Apple

These terms are between you and Titun, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app and is not responsible for addressing any claim relating to it, including product liability, legal or regulatory compliance, consumer protection, or intellectual property claims. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The current version always ships inside the app, with its "Updated" date; continued use after a change means you accept it.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Mexico, USA, excluding its conflict-of-law rules, and disputes belong to the courts located there. If you live somewhere whose consumer-protection law gives you mandatory rights or a local venue, you keep them.
